Our History: Italian Artisan Knitwear since 1953

A Family Business that Stems from a Loom.

It all began in the early 1950s, when Maria Salvadori, an enterprising and passionate woman, bought a loom to help support her family. Her talent and entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to collaborate with a knitting mill in Prato, coordinating a group of craftswomen working from home.

Together with her husband Ivo Deri, Maria founded Maglificio Deri in 1953 in San Frediano a Settimo, Pisa, specializing in women’s knitwear for third parties.

The Evolution of a Craft Tradition

Over the years, the business grows. Maria’s daughter Mila joined the company, bringing new energy. Her husband Giovanni Prispolini took over in 1981, modernizing production with electronic machinery and introducing men’s handmade knitwear.

In the 1990s, Samanta and Alessandro – Mila’s children – joined the company: she followed the administrative side, he specialized in machine programming.

The MR Brand: Tradition and Innovation

In 2023, the MR – Manuel Rinaldi brand was born, carried on by the fourth generation. Manuel combines Italian craftsmanship, contemporary design and natural materials to create unique knitwear garments.

1950

Founding of the Workshop

Maria Salvadori started a home weaving business and, thanks to her resourcefulness, began to collaborate with a knitting mill in Prato, coordinating a group of home workers. Her husband, Ivo Deri, joins the business.

1953

Birth of the Deri Knitwear Factory

Maglificio Deri was officially founded in San Frediano a Settimo (Pisa), specializing in contract manufacturing of women’s knitwear.

1981

Transformation in the Maglificio Prispolini

Giovanni Prispolini, husband of Mila (daughter of Maria and Ivo), took over the leadership of the company, transforming it into Maglificio Prispolini, expanding production to men’s knitwear with the introduction of electronic machinery.

1990

Growth of the Knitting Mill

As sons Samanta and Alessandro joined the company, the knitting mill grew further: Samanta took over management and accounting, while Alessandro specialized in knitting machine programming.

2023

Birth of the brand Manuel Rinaldi

The MR brand, led by Manuel Rinaldi (Samanta’s son), was born, carrying on the family tradition with an innovative brand of knitwear for men and women, combining craftsmanship, design and high-quality materials.
